InWear teamed up with hand-knitting factory Udruzene, located in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to help local women achieve economic empowerment through creative work and enable them to make use of traditional skills and knowledge passed down through generations

When I created and started this project in Sarajevo, my wish was to create a place where women will feel good. The whole idea, and I think that is the key of Udružene’s success, is that we managed to build a community where we all have one goal in common, and that is primarily to have a good time, to feel good, to help each other, and to invest all our resources, both professional and emotional. We really try to learn from each other as much as possible, and to build, in fact, a society in which we would like to live. Society of tolerance, society of caring for one another, a successful community”.

The women we work with knit at home. They usually come to our office in Sarejevo once a week to collect their materials. They take the wool, and receive technical specifications, and work instructions we have gotten from the client and designer.

They usually create one sample from home. After that one sample, we meet them locally, for control. If everything is in order, they can take a larger amount of material that they take home. They knit 5, 10, 15 pieces and bring them in for control.

When the knits are done, we do the final work, such as label sewing, ironing, packaging, and shipping. Everything is done by hand.
