“Sisterhood has really been a comfort to us. Especially having a twin sister. You always had a best friend.”
Our biggest rolemodel is our mom, she’s called Arsam. And it’s really funny but InWear is one of the first brands that we got introduced to through my mom. She was always really into fashion and especially feminine fashion.
We found our individuality when we were growing up, because you were always referred to as the twins and never Mona or Mandanna. And although we’re not identical, we look a lot alike. So people would see us as one person, although we had very different personalities. But growing up, the older we got, the easier it got to to find yourself. I would say that my mother’s generation and especially my mom, taught me to not let society tell you who you are and to live out yourself. Because as an immigrant mom, she was very judged and discriminated, but she still managed to work through that and become who she wanted to be.
We wish to teach our future kids to be brave and walk your own way, to not care about what people think about you or what society expects of you. Get out there and express yourself and be yourself fully. And I would also say sisterhood to be there for other women, because that’s something I have seen in a lot of my Iranian family members. The women there, are there for each other because society has also sort of neglected them. As Middle Eastern women modelling, we want to show our look and claim the right to be seen as you are. That is imprinted and encoded in our DNA, but also due to how society looks and how everything functions in the world right now.
